The Elm City Rotary Club is hosting an annual public event to raise funds and nonperishable items for children who are food insecure and living in Keene, New Hampshire. The culminating event – Thanksgiving in July – seeks to engage local residents to partake in an exciting fundraising event to celebrate the unique, “all hands on deck” service opportunity that will make a huge impact in the lives of local children and families.
In February 2016, Keene Elm City Rotary founded MUCH (Monadnock Understands Childhood Hunger) an advisory think tank of Rotarians, non-profit and advocacy professionals in the field of childhood hunger. From MUCH work has come the critical knowledge that summer is a time of great need for hungry children. Without the benefit of school and after school programs and with rural households living in poverty, children’s access to healthy foods more than doubles during the summer months.
What can you do to help?
DROP OFF NON-PERISHABLE FOODS AT MONADNOCK FOOD CO-OP OR SHOP AND DROP THEM OFF WHEN YOU ARE DONE. THEY WILL BE ACCEPTING MONETARY DONATIONS AS WELL!
- All donations will go to The Community Kitchen, which will earmark the proceeds for summer childhood hunger programs. The funds will be used to reach families in need during the summer months, and to purchase healthy snacks for existing summer programs.
- Food donations will help greatly to replenish food pantry shelves which dwindle during the summer high demand.
- Join M.U.C.H.!
- Have garden extras? Leftover packaged food from a large party or BBQ? Take advantage of the Community Kitchen’s gleaning program that also works to fill family boxes all summer long!
